Volunteer with Teaching in Kenya

Duration 1 – 8 weeks

Volunteers are placed in either community schools or orphan helping schools. Sometimes we collaborate with the government to send volunteers to public schools in disadvantaged areas.. The teaching program is offered in:

  • Nairobi
  • Rural areas of Kenya especially in Maasailand

We have partner schools in very remote areas, the vast slums of Nairobi and other major towns, and the general rural Kenya. Many of the schools that we work with are understaffed and are always in need of a helping hand. There are three school terms in a year. During the breaks, the teaching volunteers usually take the time off to go and see wildlife or do other forms of safari. If they want to stay around, there is work always at the school, like painting, repair or renovations. What Does The Work Entail? The volunteer does not need to be a qualified or experienced teacher to teach. Volunteers teach in the following fields:

  • English

  • Social Studies

The accommodation is safe, secure and located in the community where our volunteers work. Living is comfortable; our houses have electricity and running water with Western toilets.

There are also homestay options, available on request where volunteers will be placed with an in-country family.

Child and vulnerable bodies’ Protection Policy

As an organization we have a child and vulnerable bodies’ protection policy which is implemented across all our organization, partner organizations and all programs. As part of this policy, for all local partners, volunteers and program leaders, due vetting is conducted in the form of background checks and police clearances. This is done to provide all children and vulnerable bodies under the care of Volunteer Factor the protection and safety they deserve. Along with this, we take good care in making sure that engagement with children and vulnerable bodies is done under supervision and that all parties engaging with children and vulnerable bodies, do not take advantage of them and not cause further harm. Any suspicions and alleged abuse will be taken seriously and dealt with immediately with due care.
